The NetFlow Visualizer is a graph based network visualization tool where nodes are single network devices and oriented edges represent communication between these devices.

Graph based network visualization is very close to essence of the network topology and communication. Therefore this type of visualization is very natural for both network administrators and nonspecialists.

NFVis is available in two different versions:

• NetFlow Visualizer Free (NFVis Free) – distributed for free as a proof-of-concept of NetFlow data visualization, limited in data acquisition and external data sources and utilities utilization.
• NetFlow Visualizer Plus (NFVis+) – commercial version of NFVis provided as a plug-in for INVEA-TECH FlowMon Probe.

• IP version 4 support with a potential to IP version 6 extension

• variable data acquisition interface to select demanded time interval

• aggregation levels (communication between network devices, aggregation using destination ports, individual flows)

• advanced filtering using attributes of NetFlow records

• support of NetFlow data profiles

• DNS utilization with a simple cache

• node search using IP address or DNS name

• names and additional information for port numbers

• WHOIS utilization

• network diagnostic tools utilization (ping, tracert, nmap)

• visualization adjustment (node shape and size)

• whole graph overview

• user configuration storage on the client or server (FlowMon probe) side.

Visualization tool NetFlow Visualizer was developed and is owned by Masaryk University and Mycroft Mind, Inc. This tool is one of the results of CAMNEP project no. N62558-07-C-0001 which was financed by the U.S. ARMY. This project was carried out at the Institute of Computer Science, Masaryk University with the usage of the Technologies developed by Mycroft Mind, Inc. NFVis Free is distributed for free and licensed by Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0.
