Information on research projects at Masaryk University is maintained using a
classical form-table user interface. This is suitable for basic record keeping
but not for advanced reporting and analysis.
The primary goal of the ProjectScope application is to provide insight into
the network of research projects being undertaken at Masaryk University. This
insight can then generate ideas and requests for new and more advanced views,
which, when implemented, will leverage the analytical aspect of the work to a
higher level. With ProjectScope, analysis and reporting activities can happen
more quickly, more comfortably and on demand.
An innovative feature of ProjectScope is its ability to view cooperation
between single units on projects (see picture). This is visualized as a graph
where nodes represent single units, edges cooperation between them and their
size and thickness the number of projects undertaken. By clicking on more links
on the nodes or edges, it drills-down to projects undertaken by a respective
unit or couple of units.
The ProjectScope application is web based and its architecture has been
designed to make the implementation of new view at both server and
client easy.
ProjectScope has been developed in cooperation with the Institute of Computer
Science and Rector’s Office at Masaryk University.
For university users, Mycroft Mind, a.s provides ProjectScope as a service.
This service includes both technical support and conception and coordination of
further development.
